Personality tests does not only make sense in permanent employment

If you’ve worked in an internal HR position, you know just how costly a recruitment mistake can be for the company. Depending on the employee’s monthly salary and the length of employment, a recruitment mistake can cost an average of between 350,000-500,000 DKK.

Additionally, there’s the time perspective: planned or ongoing projects are postponed until the new colleague is found and another training process begins. But it’s not just in permanent employment that recruitment mistakes can mean additional costs and delays in planned activities. For freelance employment, the impact of a recruitment mistake can also be severe because the consultant is hired to solve something very specific within an set timeframe, and a delay or mismatch can mean project postponement.

What can we do to avoid recruitment mistakes in the freelance industry?

Can you guard yourself against recruitment mistakes 100%?

No because there are things that simply is out of our control, but you can make a contractual relationship with eyes as open as possible. Here, a personality or skills test can be a valuable tool. Studies show that people tested for personality are more likely to succeed in the job and have longer tenures.

But what is a personality test, and what does it measure?

A personality test fundamentally creates clarity and honesty. A personality test sharpens the consultants own awareness of their professional competencies, behavior, reaction patterns, and work style. At the same time, the company gains documented insight into their employees strengths and limitations.

On this basis, a personality test offers a strong foundation for assessing whether the candidate and the companys expectations for the specific position are a match. Thus, recruitment mistakes are also avoided in freelance recruitment, and the company saves resources and time.

Benefits for the consultant

Often, as humans, we are undefined about our own behavioral patterns. A personality test helps illuminate things that may have been invisible knowledge to us before.

As a consultant, you create sharper clarity and framing for how you work, act, and react, and at the same time, you can present a much sharper and more in-depth personal profile than the classic CV can offer.

Benefits for the company

Companies can use personality tests to assess in advance how a given consultant will function in their specific work environment. The company gains in-depth knowledge of the consultants professional and personal traits, which supports the best possible selection process regarding the companys desires for the specific position and the work environment the consultant is expected to fit into.

This allows the company, on a much more informed basis, to make decisions about the consultants suitability and save a lot of money by avoiding recruitment mistakes.

Types of personality tests

MPA

The MPA test does is a personality tests that does not focus on what the test taker can or cannot do – but rather on what they prefer to do. Therefore, there is no such thing as a right or wrong answer in MPA. Instead, the test provides clarification about action patterns:

  • how the person takes responsibility and control in a larger group;
  • ability to achieve goals;
  • how one’s energy is used at work;
  • the person’s social interaction in the workplace is also assessed on various parameters such as emotional control, communication, and how much trust and responsibility they delegate, and much more.

All of this gives companies peace of mind in the recruitment process. The company’s access to specific things to measure the consultant on leads to a more secure and successful recruitment.

ACE

The ACE test focuses heavily on the logical thinking of test takers. It measures the ability to acquire new knowledge, new skills, and the ability to understand complex challenges. Companies therefore have a basis for assessing a candidate’s ability to:

  • understand complex challenges, a tool to see if the person’s action patterns align with the company’s.
  • acquisition of new knowledge, which is especially important today, where many companies need employees who are adaptable and agile.

The fact that ACE is a data-based tool also provides a tangible tool for the company to measure specific elements.

So, there is money to be saved by being careful and thorough in the hiring processes…
