Three good tips for IT recruitment

When it comes to recruiting freelance IT professionals, there are some important considerations that can help us assist you in finding the right consultants for your company. Here are three good tips for considerations that can streamline a successful freelance IT recruitment process.

1. Specific Job Description

Start by defining a specific job description and assessing the needs for the position you want to fill. It is incredibly important to be precise in the qualities you are seeking.

the more accurately you can describe and define your expectations, the greater the chance of attracting the right consultants, and the recruitment agencies can present you with qualified consultants.

Be specific about the skills, experiences, and technologies you envision the consultant possessing and mastering. And then of course all of the practical aspects of it : when to start, how long a contract etc.

Did you know…

The turnover in the Danish IT industry has nearly doubled in the last 10 years, and more and more people are being employed in IT positions. However, the Danish IT industry still faces challenges in growth. This was made clear, for example, when a recent EU report indicated a significant shortage of IT skills leading up to 2030.

The report showed that Denmark is expected to lack up to 200,000 IT specialists by 2030. Currently, the proportion of IT specialists in the Danish labor market is 5.6%, which is low compared to our neighboring countries, such as Sweden (8.0%).

Although, according to EU figures, Denmark will face a shortage of 200,000 IT specialists in just five years, addressing this issue appears so challenging that Denmark has set a goal of finding 50,000 additional IT specialists by 2030. Furthermore, to meet the requirements of the EU’s Digital Decade—focused on strengthening EU countries against the increasing cyber threat—Denmark has launched five political initiatives in 2025 to tackle the shortage of IT specialists.

Several initiatives have been introduced to address this challenge in 2025. The Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science has approved five projects aimed at retraining and retaining more IT specialists in the Danish workforce. Four of these projects focus on developing training programs in areas such as cybersecurity and artificial intelligence for current IT employees. The fifth project, led by Aarhus University, aims to retain international students in the professional master’s program in Computer Science.

2. Culture and Working Environment Matters in a Freelance Setting

Even though you are looking for a freelance consultant, and the consultant is not “permanently employed,” it is still important to be aware about communicating your culture and working environment. Well-being, culture, and working environment are also crucial factors in whether a consultant can see themselves in your company, just as they are for permanent employees.

By sharing information about your culture, values, and team composition, we as an IT Freelance Partner can better screen out consultants who do not fit your company. This saves time and money for you and minimizes the risk of a bad match.

Therefore, make sure to include information about your company culture and working environment in your recruitment process to attract freelancers who fit well into your team. They might as well be recommending your company to your next employee.

3. Look Beyond Denmark's Borders

When recruiting IT freelancers, you should also consider looking beyond Denmark’s borders. There is a wide range of talented and experienced IT consultants globally who can contribute to your company’s success. Here, you should consider both nearshoring, which involves outsourcing tasks to a freelancer within a geographical proximity to the company, typically a neighboring country – and offshoring, which is outsourcing tasks to a third party with a significant geographical distance from the parent company. There are pros and cons to both forms, and we recommend that you familiarize yourself with them – which you can do in our post here.

Expanding your search globally can give you access to a larger talent pool and different perspectives, which can be valuable for your company. Be open to working with remote workers who can bring unique and specialized skills and experiences to the table.
